PPP MPs expected to deposit salary increases in party account -statement

The PPP today said that its MPs are expected to deposit their salary increases into an account in the name of the party. The PPP had said that the party will not be accepting controversial salary hikes recently announced by the government.

The PPP statement follows:

Since June 1976 the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) established a Bank Account at the Royal Bank of Canada now Republic Bank (Guyana) Ltd. This account was established to facilitate People’s Progressive Party (PPP) Members of Parliament making part of their Parliamentary salary available as a donation to the Party, since then PPP Members of Parliament have been doing so on a voluntary basis.
With the recent salary increase granted to PPP Members of Parliament the Party took a decision that its current Members of Parliament will not be accepting the increases. All PPP Members of Parliament were therefore obliged to take steps in keeping with the established practice and based on the recent Party’s decision concerning the salary increases.
