Fault at Kingston may have caused yesterday’s blackout – GPL

A fault at the Kingston Power Station was likely responsible for the total shutdown of the Demerara Berbice Interconnected System (DBIS) yesterday morning.

According to a press release from the Guyana Power and Light (GPL), the DBIS experienced a total shutdown at 05:45 hrs yesterday.

Ongoing problems at the Kingston Plant hampered restoration which began at 06:10 hrs in some areas, GPL said.

Full restoration was accomplished at 09:04 hrs when areas in Georgetown were repowered, it added.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the primary cause of the shutdown, but initial indications are that it was a result of a fault at the Kingston DP3 station, the release said, adding that troubleshooting was ongoing.

GPL said it regretted any inconvenience caused.
