Linden teen gets fine, community service over cannabis possession

A Linden teen was yesterday fined $5,000 and sentenced to three months of community service after she pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis.

Rosanna Ricola Smith, 18, of M18, One Mile Wismar, Linden, went before city magistrate Fabayo Azore and pleaded guilty to the charge of drug possession.

Smith admitted that on November 21, at a shop near the Mazaruni River, where she was the shopkeeper at the said time, she was searched by police and found with four grammes of cannabis.

Smith’s lawyer argued for a small fine for his client, given the fact that the quantity of the drug was small and that it was her first offence.

The magistrate eventually fined Smith and ordered her to perform three months of community service in Linden.
