Three charged over theft of raw gold

Three men were yesterday charged with stealing nearly half of a million dollars’ worth of raw gold.

Selwyn Croft, 36, of Lusignan, Ramdeo Persaud, 35, of Better Hope, and Samuel Boston, 50, of Vryheid’s Lust, all denied the charge when they appeared in a Georgetown court.

It is alleged that between October 1st and November 20th, 2015, at an area near the Cuyuni-Mazaruni District, they stole two ounces and two pennyweights of raw gold, valued $480,000, from Terry Singh.

According to the prosecution, the police file on the matter is incomplete. As a result, Magistrate Fabayo Azore set bail for the men at $100,000 each and ordered them to return to court on December 7th
