Cop confesses to robbing taxi-driver

A serving member of the Guyana Police Force was one of two suspects who police say confessed after being arrested on Thursday for the carjacking of a taxi-driver at Bachelor’s Adventure, East Coast Demerara.

A statement issued by the police force yesterday credited diligent investigations for lead to the arrest of the two suspects in the attack, which was carried out last Saturday.

Police, who confirmed that a serving member of the force was one of the two suspects, said they confessed to the crime and charges will be laid shortly.

The police said that the two suspects and a female accomplice had hired the taxi-driver from the Mahaica Market for Bachelor’s Adventure, where he was held at gunpoint and his car, cell phone and $18,000 were taken away.

In a subsequent statement, police reported that the stolen car, minus a stereo set, was recovered yesterday in the vicinity of the Stabroek Market, where it was parked.

The keys were in the vehicle, the force said.
