Woman accused of stealing ex’s gold chain

Ashmali Alves, 22, a typist, on Tuesday found herself in a city court charged with stealing her ex-boyfriend’s gold chain.

It is alleged that Alves, of Sparta, Essequibo Coast, stole the chain, valued at $400,000 and belonging to Tyson Collins, on December 5th, at South Ruimveldt. She pleaded not guilty.

Alves’ lawyer stated that the accused was in a relationship with the complainant and wore the chain without his permission. He said she later sold it because he wasn’t giving her money.

The defendant was placed on $10,000 bail by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan and the matter was adjourned to January 7th, 2016, when it will be heard by Magistrate Alex Moore.
