Albousytown cart man robbed woman of diamonds – court hears

An Albousytown cart man was yesterday remanded to prison to await trial after he was charged with robbing a woman of hundreds of thousands of dollars in diamonds and other items.

Paul Persaud, 23, of Lot 27 Hill Street, Albouystown, was accused of robbing Sonia Stanislaus on December 7th, at Albouystown and using violence in the process. Persaud was alleged to have taken a handbag, a gold chain, a Nokia phone and a quantity of diamonds, valued at $350,000 during the course of the robbery. The total value of the items taken amounted to $442,500.

Persaud, unrepresented at the time of his hearing, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Case prosecutor Deniro Jones objected to bail being granted due to the seriousness and prevalence of the crime, while noting also that none of the stolen items have since been recovered.

Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan ordered that Persaud be remanded until the next hearing of the matter, which is scheduled for January 6th.
