Carpenter critical after being hit by bus

A carpenter is now hospitalised in a critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) after he was struck by a minibus yesterday afternoon.

Prakash Maniram, also called ‘Davo,’ 55, was reportedly hit by minibus BSS 3785 after it overtook another minibus that had stopped to let the man cross the Strathspey, East Coast Demerara Public Road at around 2.30 pm yesterday afternoon.

According to the man’s sister, Oma (only name given), her family was told at the hospital that Maniram was in a critical condition. She further stated the driver of the bus was apprehended and taken to the Vigilance Police Station, where he remained in custody up to last evening.

Maniram, of Lot 18 Bladen Hall, East Coast Demerara, was reportedly making his way home when the accident occurred.
