Horse cart operator charged over armed robbery, drugs

A horse cart operator was yesterday remanded to prison after being read charges of armed robbery and possession of cannabis.

A city court heard the allegation that Trevor Daly, 24, on December 7th, together with another individual, on Croal Street, Georgetown, robbed Damian Bailey of $80,000, a Samsung Galaxy smartphone, a wallet, phone cards and gold rings, all amounting to $248,000 in total value. The men were said to have been armed with a knife and a gun.

Daly, of 118 President’s College Road, Golden Grove, was also charged with having 10 grammes of cannabis in his possession on December 9th, on America Street.

Daly pleaded not guilty to both charges.

Daly told the court that when the robbery occurred he was at the home of his partner. He gave no explanation for the narcotics discovery.

Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, who presided over the man’s arraignment, placed the defendant on remand for both charges. He is to appear in Court 10 on January 6th, 2016, for a hearing in the armed robbery case and in Court 11 on same date for the narcotics case.
