Gobin wins national drawing contest again

Walter Gobin has once again won first place in the national drawing competition. The results of the Tenth Biennial National Drawing Competition, which is sponsored by Republic Bank, was announced yesterday afternoon at the National Art Gallery, Castellani House. Gobin, who won the competition in 2008, won the gold medal again for his entry “Selfie on the Beach.”

Artist Kwesi Archer received the silver medal for his entry, “The Yellow Girl,” while artist Josefa Tamayo received the bronze medal for “Cannonball flowers.”

Honourable mentions were awarded to “Pottery and Carpets” by Anna Correia and ‘Reminiscence’ by Courtney Douglas. All the winners, apart from winning medals, received an honorarium, which is recognition from Republic Bank and Castellani House.

Among those in attendance at the award ceremony yesterday were Managing Director of Republic Bank Richard S. Sammy, Director of Culture Dr. James Rose and Chairman of the Castellani House Management Committee Alim Hosein.
