Sheet Anchor man remanded on drug trafficking

During Friday, the police say that a female Detective Constable was in a mini-bus on the Corentyne, Berbice, during which she got the scent of cannabis sativa (marijuana) in the vehicle.

A release from the police said that she requested the driver to drive the vehicle into Springlands Police Station Compound, whereupon the suspect attempted to exit the vehicle. As a result the Detective Constable was forced to physically restrain him from doing so.

The man who was later identified as Sheldon Simon, 45 years, of Sheet Anchor, East Canje, Berbice, was detained and 5 kilograms 470 grams of marijuana were found in his possession.

He was charged with trafficking in narcotics and appeared at the No. 51 Magistrate Court where he pleaded “not guilty” and was remanded to prison until December 29, 2015, the police said.
