Ex-con denies breaking into neighbour’s home

An ex-convict maintained his innocence yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, after he was charged with breaking and entering.

It is alleged that Sherwyn Scipio, 35, of Lot 85 Grove Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, broke and entered the home of Devon October at Grove on December 14, and stole a total value of $45,000 in items and cash. Scipio, who apparently was released from prison in November, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

According to the Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones, Scipio was seen near to the home of the virtual complainant.

However, Scipio, who lives a few houses away from October’s home, maintained his innocence saying that he did not break into the house.

Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan granted Scipio $20,000 bail and adjourned the matter until January 21, 2016, when statements will be taken at the Providence Magistrate’s Court.
