Giftland gives back for Christmas

Giftland brought smiles to the faces of Tiger Bay children on Monday as it conducted its annual Christmas gift-giving activity.

The activity was held in the Nations University Compound on New Market Street and saw the community’s children being treated to Christmas gifts and goodies. The children also had the opportunity to interact with Santa Claus, Giftland brand ambassadors, Alicia Fortune and Devon and local comedians, Linden ‘Jumbie’ Jones and Chris Gopal.

According to a statement released by the company, this is the fifth year since Giftland has been bringing Christmas cheer to this community. The statement read, “Giftland is dedicated to continue bringing joyful Christmases to the Tiger Bay Community, and although we are now located at the Giftland Mall, Plantation Pattensen, Turkeyen, supporting and developing our surrounding communities such as Tiger Bay remains priority.” The organizers of the activity expressed gratitude to the following contributors to its success: ANSA McAl, which provided juice drinks; Giftland Mall tenants: New Glory Chinese Restaurant, Mexican Taco and The Publik which provided snacks and refreshments, Roosters Grill which donated toys and other articles; as well as Treslyn Rossan who ensured that the children of the community were gathered.

Earlier this month, Giftland launched a promotion titled ‘Celebrate the Season of Giving’ in which 12 charities would receive a $500 Gift Voucher for every $5,000 spent by the Giftland shoppers. The charities selected were Hararuni Girls’ Home, Mahaica Children’s Home, Berbice Anjuman Orphanage, Camal’s International Home, Ruimveldt Children’s Home and Care Centre, Shaheed Boy’s Orphanage, David Rose Special Needs School, Fairview School in Region 9, Lucille King Foundation in Linden, St Cuthbert’s Mission Centre for Kids, Sophia Women’s Entrepreneur Group and West Le Penitence Literacy Project.

The $4,379,145 raised as result of the promotion will be equally divided among the 12 charities.
