Kastev doctor succumbs in accident

Dr. Clement Rajpaul Sukdeo, 69, lost his life when his vehicle ran into a ditch at Leonora, West Coast Demerara around 11:25 pm on Monday.

Reports are that passersby assisted in taking him to the Leonora Cottage Hospital where he died while receiving treatment.

Stabroek News was told that Dr. Sukdeo of Kastev, Meten-Meer-Zorg and formerly of Windsor Forest was driving a white Suzuki Pajero jeep PRR 8096 belonging to his son, Andrew, when he died

Sources said that the “vehicle was proceeding west at a normal rate of speed,” when he apparently missed the turn in the vicinity of the cemetery and lost control of the vehicle.

He reportedly hit the parapet and went head-down in the water and the vehicle was left in that position until it was pulled out around 6:15 am yesterday.

Persons told this newspaper that “the trench did not have more than two feet of water” but that Dr. Sukdeo was trapped in the vehicle by the seatbelt.

The police at the Leonora station received a call about the accident but by the time they reached the scene, the doctor had already been taken to the hospital.

Relatives, when contacted, declined to offer any comment.
