Minibus shooter identified

The hunt for the man who gunned down another in a bus on the Demerara Harbour Bridge is underway as the police were able to confirm the shooter’s identity.

Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum confirmed yesterday that with the help of the CCTV footage that was received from the Harbour Bridge, they were able to extract a clear image which was used to identify the man.

However, the body of the deceased has still not been identified.

Stabroek News had reported that the two men were in a Route 32 bus on the Harbour Bridge when an argument ensued between them over rain coming in one of the windows. The bus driver had stopped to let them out when one of the men pulled out a gun and fired several shots, hitting the now deceased man twice to his throat, and injuring an off duty police constable who was a passenger in the bus. The shooter then escaped.

The unidentified victim was rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The Police Constable, who was identified as Rudolph Williams, was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was treated and discharged yesterday.
