Ralph Gonsalves wins fourth term

(Barbados Nation) THERE IS WILD CELEBRATION on the streets of Kingstown as the Unity Labour Party (ULP) had won an unprecedented fourth term in office.

For a tense 30 minutes, the ULP and the New Democratic Party were locked at seven seats apiece. But even before the official results were announced, the pulsating strains of the ULP’s party song ‘Labour’ started blaring from the party’s house on Murray Street.

The pivotal constituency was that of Central Leeward, which was won by Sir Louis Straker for the ULP, tipping the balance 8-7. The official result came back just after 11 p.m.

Traffic is at a standstill as cars snaked their way up the hill in a motorcade, with jubilant supporters trumpeting they said ‘We couldn’t do it again’.

The sound of explosions joined the honking horns and music.
