Police probing death of bedridden Providence man

The police are probing the death of an 83-year-old bedridden man, who was allegedly beaten by a relative with a piece of wood late Tuesday night at his Providence, East Bank Demerara (EBD) home.

Stabroek News understands that Mohamed Suleiman of Lot 38 Providence (EBD) died just after 21:00 hrs Tuesday night at the Georgetown Public Hospital Incorporated (GPHC), hours after he was beaten. After the incident he was rushed immediately to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre but was later transferred to the GPHC.

According to a police source, Suleiman’s relative dealt him several lashes to his head and about his body with a piece of wood.

The relative is in police custody assisting with investigations. A post-mortem examination is to be done.
