Patrick Simmons, who admitted that police nabbed him with over 100 grammes of cocaine, was on Monday sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to drug trafficking.
Simmons, 28, pleaded guilty to a charge which stated that on April 22, he had 140 grammes of cocaine in his possession for trafficking. According to the facts presented in court,
Simmons was stopped by police officers who were patrolling the Bourda Market area and a search was conducted of his person.
The search resulted in the discovery of a black plastic bag in the man’s waist, which contained several rock like substances suspected to be cocaine. It was later confirmed to be the drug.
When given the opportunity to speak on the charge laid against him, Simmons said, “Your worship, I am guilty of the offence.”
Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry subsequently sentenced Simmons to three years in prison and fined him $30,000.
