Berbice Bridge Company donates to Cancer Society, Rotary Club

On April 30, the Berbice Bridge Company Incorporated (BBCI) donated a washing machine and $50,000 to the Cancer Society, Berbice Chapter and the Rotary Club of New Amsterdam respectively.

According to a BBCI press release, the washing machine donated to the Cancer Society was towards its fund raising effort of a Mother and Child Pageant and that of the $50,000 to the Rotary Club of New Amsterdam for their fundraiser of Gymkhana event.

Ultimately, the proceeds had from both fundraisers will be used for the organisations’ services the releases said. In the case of the Rotary Club of New Amsterdam, the funding will be utilised for community service projects such as medical outreach clinics, literacy programmes, elderly care, disabled services, orphaned aid, youth training and provision of clean water. The Cancer Society will utilise theirs for the support of cancer patients be it for local or overseas treatment.

In addition to the support given to both organisations, the BBCI said, in their bid to support development the company has granted a toll waiver of one vehicle twice per month to the Beacon Foundation Limited for the transport of nurses to render domiciliary hospice care to terminally ill cancer patients in East Berbice.

Bibi Alli, Administrative Assistant of the BBCI presented the donations to Robin Arthur, Secretary of the Cancer Society and Rohan Murray, Secretary of the Rotary Club. In fulfilling its corporate responsibilities, BBCI said it has honoured 57 out of the 67 public relations requests received thus far for 2015 which included donations to non-profit organisations, educational institutions and sports tournaments.
