Three held, released in Hamid murder probe

Three persons were last week arrested in connection with the murder of Regent Street businessman Farouk Hamid but were all released from police custody yesterday, Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum said.

Blanhum told Stabroek News that a condition of their release is that they have to report to police at stipulated times. The investigations is still ongoing.

Hamid who owned Hamson’s General Store was discovered by his reputed wife in the backyard of his Nandy Park, East Bank Demerara home around 9 am on April 16. The woman had gone to the home after she failed to make contact with him.

A post-mortem examination revealed that he died from a stab wound to his heart. Based on the information from the police, the man also sustained several wounds to the face.

His brother Fazil had told the media that the man had a previous argument with a former employee but he could not say when it occurred. He opted not to disclose to the media what the argument was about.

Relatives and associates are convinced that the killer must have been close to Hamid and was very familiar with the property as the neighbours heard no barking in the hours prior to the discovery of the body.
