Surinam Airways commences non-stop flights to Orlando

The Guyanese public will now have access to non-stop flights to Orlando, Florida from Surinam Airways at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) on a weekly basis for three months.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, the inaugural flight was scheduled to lift off at 10:30h yesterday and is expected to return today at 18:00h.

The continuation of the Orlando non-stop flights, will be determined after an “evaluation of the operation” after the three-month period is finished to determine the way forward, the Local Manager of the Airline, Rudi Westerborg said, while adding, “we work closely with the travel agents, so we have an idea of the travellers’ needs.”

Minister of Public Infrastructure, David Patterson said the new service being offered by Surinam Airways is “great and exciting” news and it is a “clear indication of the confidence” the Airline has in the volume of passengers’ traffic in Guyana and by extension the aviation sector.

Patterson added, “Guyana is truly the gateway to many other countries and its potential in the aviation sector is boundless,” and he intends to actively engage the CJIA’s CEO, Ramesh Ghir on the untapped opportunities available to explore.
