NA man busted with six kilos of ganja

A New Amsterdam man was taken into custody yesterday after police found six kilogrammes of marijuana at his home.

Police conducted a search at the home of the suspect at Cummings Ville at around 8AM yesterday and found several parcels containing the marijuana. Drugs were also found hidden in compartments of the man’s vehicle.

Stabroek News was told that while police were in the vicinity of the man’s house, he spotted them and tossed a parcel out of a window.

The man is reported to have later claimed ownership of the illegal items. He remains in custody and is expected to be taken before a court early next week.

Meanwhile, another man was charged in the New Amsterdam Magis-trate’s Court yesterday with being in possession of cannabis for trafficking.

Rawle Victor, 29, who is said to be a known character to the court and lawmen, pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read to him by Magistrate Marissa Mittleholzer.

It is alleged that on June 24th, at Sheet Anchor, East Canje, he had 356 grammes of cannabis in his possession.

After the charge was read, Sergeant Phillip Sherriff objected to bail on the grounds that the accused had escaped from police after he was held and cautioned in connection with the offence. As the officers were taking Victor into the vehicle, he allegedly slipped out and escaped. He was later recaptured and placed before the court. He was remanded to prison until September 28th.
