Accused in Pegasus taxi driver’s murder for trial

One of the two men charged with murdering Pegasus Hotel taxi driver Rudranauth Jeeboo over a year ago was yesterday committed to stand trial.

Shawn Edinboro and Lorenzo Forde were charged with murdering Jeeboo between December 27th and December 28th, 2013, at South Ruimveldt, Georgetown.

Forde, 19, was committed to stand trial at the conclusion of the lengthy preliminary inquiry into the charge, during which approximately 15 witnesses testified. Edinboro, meanwhile, was acquitted.

The court had heard from the prosecution that the two men flagged down the taxi driver and later killed him and dumped his body in a garbage heap.

Magistrate Fabayo Azore, who presided over the preliminary inquiry, yesterday announced at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court 5 that after taking into consideration all the evidence given by the prosecution, she was convinced that a prima facie case was made out against Forde for the capital offence. However, she noted that there was insufficient evidence against Edinboro for the charge and as a result the charge against him was dismissed.

Forde was represented by attorney Simone Morris-Ramlall, while Edinboro was represented by attorney Latchmie Rahamat. After the hearing, Edinboro was heard happily yelling to his relatives that the charge was dismissed and he was freed, while Forde’s disposition was subdued.
