GDF attracts 311 recruits

A total of 311 recruits joined the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) during its recent recruitment drive, a release from the GDF said yesterday.

The recruits have since departed for the Colonel John Clarke Military School, Tacama Berbice and Base Camp Seweyo, Linden Highway to undergo the Basic Recruit Training.

A release from the GDF said that the recruits departed Base Camp Ayanganna on Friday. Two hundred and eleven of them will undergo training at Tacama, whilst the remainder will be trained at Base Camp Seweyo. The Basic Recruit Course provides induction training for entrants at the Ordinary Rank level. The release said that the training will be conducted over a 10-week period before the successful recruits graduate.

The recruitment process commenced in June and lasted approximately two months. During this period the potential recruits were screened and tested in a number of academic, physical and medical evaluations. Those who were successful were then interviewed by a Select Panel prior to them being selected for Basic Training.
