Lewis, 22, of East Ruimveldt was reportedly at a dance at the Ghetto Flex bar, located at James and Albouys streets, Albouystown when two gunmen walked up and opened fire around 3 am.

He was pronounced dead on arrival the Georgetown Public Hospital after being shot multiple times about the body.

Meanwhile, Kurt Francis, 16, of Princes Street; Jonathan De Freitas, 20, of Diamond Housing Scheme, and Jamal Bascom, 23, of Independence Boulevard, had to seek medical attention after each was shot once in the attack.

Both De Freitas and Francis were discharged from the hospital last Friday afternoon as they sustained minor wounds, but Bascom remains hospitalized with a bullet still lodged in his left leg.

Bascom, who indicated that he was visiting from the United States of America, told Stabroek News he was standing at the dance, when he heard several loud bangs and felt a burning sensation around his leg, after which he ran towards the bar and hid. He heard several more gunshots and saw people screaming and running for cover, he explained.

According to an eyewitness, two men walked up to the crowd of people where Lewis was standing and opened fired on him. After they fired about 14 shots and saw his body drop to the ground, they ran towards a white car and escaped.

Lewis’s death has since been linked to an ongoing gang war as he was a known member of a gang in East Ruimveldt.
