It is unclear how the incident occurred but the man’s daughter Chandrawattie Bhola said that from her understanding he was crossing the road when motor vehicle HC 5768 coming from the direction of New Amsterdam struck him. Police in an official statement said “Investigations revealed that the driver … was proceeding along the roadway, when he collided with the pedal cyclist who is alleged to have swerved into the path of the motor vehicle. As a result Delana suffered injuries and was taken to the Skeldon Hospital where he was pronounced DOA.”

According to the daughter, her father went to her house to turn on the lights as she was at a wedding two villages away. He would have been on his way home when he was struck.

She noted that her father’s body bore multiple lacerations and a gaping wound on his forehead.

A post-mortem examination is expected to be performed today.

The man was described as a quiet and easy going individual. He is survived by his wife, two daughters and five grandchildren.

Police are continuing their investigations.
