Trial of cops accused of Colwyn Harding assault adjourned until October

The assault case against the two police officers charged with assaulting detainee Colwyn Harding was adjourned again yesterday.

The trial of police constables Devin Singh and Rosel Tilbury-Douglas was set to continue yesterday at the Providence Magistrate’s Court but was adjourned to October 8 due to Magistrate Leron Daly being away on leave.

Singh, of Lot 125 Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, and Tilbury-Douglas, of 429 Back Road, Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara, are jointly charged with assaulting Harding between November 1 and November 13, 2013, at the Timehri Police Station.

Singh also faces an additional assault charge.

Harding has accused the police of ramming a condom-covered baton up his anus and later physically assaulting him.
