Man gunned down near Bourda Market

A man was riddled with bullets near Bourda Market early this morning and his friend injured. Police are still trying to ascertain how the shooting occurred.

Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum this morning identified the dead man as Stanley Lovell, 30, called Shawn Lovell of Prashad Nagar who sustained about 13 gunshot wounds. His friend is Anthony Gill age 21 years of Bent Street. He sustained a single gunshot wound to the thigh and is currently warded at the Georgetown Hospital.

Blanhum confirmed that the shooting occurred around 3 am at the corner of Regent and Bourda streets. According to Blanhum the circumstances are unclear as detectives are getting conflicting stories.

He said that one version is that Lovell was arguing with some persons when one of them opened fire on him. Another version is that Lovell was sitting on his car when a lone gunman walked up to him and opened fire.

Both men were rushed to the hospital where Lovell was pronounced dead.

The police in “A” Division are investigating the murder of Stanley Lovell aka “Steve” 30 years, a car rental agent of 64 Prashad Nagar, which occurred about 0300h. today Saturday October 24, 2015, at Regent and Bourda Streets, Georgetown; And also the shooting of Anthony Lall 21 years, a cleaner of Bent Street, Wortmanville, Georgetown.

Investigations reveal that Stanley Lovell was sitting on the bonnet of his motor car PMM 3825 when he was approached by a male who was armed with a high powered weapon and who opened fire hitting Stanley Lovell 13 times about his body and escaped in a waiting vehicle.

Anthony Lall who was said to be standing next to Stanley Lovell was shot in his left foot; he was treated at a hospital and sent away. He is presently assisting the police in their investigations.

The police have recovered 14 9mm spent shells from the scene.
