According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release, the conference will take the form of a workshop to educate students on the illness and to pave the way for practical activities to allow students to be able to recognise the signs and behavioural patterns.

It is the second year for the collaborative effort between the ministry and Dr Caldeira’s team, the release said. In addition to being the founder and director of clinical services of “Let’s talk psychological wellness,” Caldeira has in excess of 15 years of providing consultation, training, psychological assessment, individual, couples and group therapy services. She also has expertise in using relatively short-term treatment to address anxiety, depression, trauma and post-traumatic stress, alcohol and other substances.

Minister within the Ministry of Public Health, Dr Karen Cummings expressed gratitude for the offer of assistance as she noted Guyana only has one clinical psychologist.

Currently, Caldeira serves as a staff psychologist at Columbia University Medical Center/Student Mental Health Center in providing assessments and psychotherapy services to clinical students (medical, nursing, physical therapy and public health) on the campus.
