My attention has been drawn to a report in the press, that I have “ruled” that Mr Freddie Kissoon has been wrongfully dismissed by the Council of the University of Guyana and that I recommended that Mr Kissoon be compensated.
I wish to state that I received a complaint from Mr Kissoon, alleging wrongful dismissal, against the Council of the University of Guyana. In keeping with the practice of this office, I forwarded a copy of the complaint to the agency against which the complaint was made, in this case through the Registrar of the University of Guyana.
I sought and obtained counsel’s opinion on the issue and I transmitted same to the Registrar of the University of Guyana.
I was careful to state in my correspondence that the office of the Ombudsman was advised of counsel’s opinion on Mr Kissoon’s complaint.
I did not conduct any investigation, nor did I make any finding in this matter.
