Guyanese must use their voices wisely

Dear Editor,

While it may be fair to say that many Guyanese did not stand with Mr Courtney Crum-Ewing while he was alive, there is nothing hypocritical or less than noble about taking up his cause now, after his death. One must acknowledge that most Guyanese are justifiably afraid to speak out. If citizens now choose to speak out – perhaps, because he was killed – then, at least, his work would not have been for naught.

That said, Guyanese must use their voices wisely. Our loudest, most meaningful voice is our ballot. We must speak out when it counts, on the day of reckoning: May 11. We must not be provoked. We cannot afford to let anyone manipulate us. We must remain calm, composed, collected and principled. We must remain safe so that we can speak out on May 11.

Yours faithfully,
Mark DaCosta
