Talking down

Dear Editor,

I wanted to say for our Top Cop, who of course can’t say it himself, “Excuse me, Mr Minister and Mr President, I’m a policeman; I know my duty. You just confirmed me as Commissioner; do you really think I need top-level instructions to investigate a murder?”

Almost all of us are so used to being talked down to by politicians that public servants don’t even seem to notice this kind of insult to the intelligence. The Guyanese people as a whole have been used and exploited so shamelessly for so long without effective resistance, that it is not unthinkable that our rulers are right about us. Here comes another opportunity to get the government we deserve.

Yours faithfully,

Gordon Forte
