Police should record the stops carried out on motorists

Dear Editor,

On the BBC World News of Tuesday, March 24, there was an item that emphasized that the UK police must record the stops they carry out on motorists. This recommendation was made by her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMC). I have been reading about the travails of the two young ladies, who after a night out at the Princess Hotel suffered at the hands of the police; this is intolerable. With all the legal and illegal road blocks being carried out by bogus policemen and real policemen, this is a recommendation that should find a positive resonance within the police force in Guyana. Further the police watchdog also criticized senior officers in Britain for failing to understand the impact of stop and search powers when used against people in the street.

The unfortunate thing about this is that we the citizens of this land know why the police harass us daily and continue to do so; a stop to this will happen eventually.

 Yours faithfully,

Milton Bruce
