Dog hygiene

Dear Editor,

Last Wednesday afternoon I took my rescue dog Carlisa (on a leash) for a walk. As your readers can recall several years ago Carlisa was rescued from drowning in a trench in front of the former home of our President and First Lady. As Carlisa and I got to Shiv Chanderpaul Drive and Regent Street she stopped to do “her business”. I immediately reached into my pocket and got out a plastic bag and picked up the poop. As we were about to carry on walking a young man came up to me and said “Miss, you must be from abroad because I never see anyone picking up after their dogs”. I smiled and continued walking.

I got to thinking about what the young man said to me and I could not agree more. Every day we home-owners are faced with messes left by the dogs of irresponsible owners. It is not only the parapets but walking on the seawall one has to dodge dog poop. Animal owners need to become more aware of the importance of picking up after their dogs, it is not only environmental pollution but it can spread diseases.

Help keep our city clean; please, if you take your dog for a walk use a leash and take a poop and scoop bag to pick up after them.

 Yours faithfully,

Syeada Manbodh
