Victims of rape are entitled to privacy

Dear Editor,

There is news that the Prime Minister of St Vincent & Grenadines Dr Ralph Gonsalves will be coming to Guyana to deliver a Cheddi Jagan lecture.

There is news not reported in Guyana that Prime Minister Gonsalves has refused to condemn the behaviour of one of his colleagues, Elson Crick, who shared private information about a woman who has been seeking justice for rape.

Elson Crick shared all her details on a radio programme. The woman did not give him or anyone else permission to do so.

St Vincent, like Guyana, has a problem with not giving justice to survivors of rape.

PM Gonsalves who will be celebrating Cheddi Jagan in Guyana does not seem to believe that the women who seek justice for rape deserve privacy.

What do those who will be welcoming PM Gonsalves into their midst think about justice for people who seek justice for rape?

Yours faithfully,

Vidyaratha Kissoon
