A National Cadet Corps would have an important role in moulding youths

Dear Editor,

Reference is made to President David Granger’s recent announcement of plans to introduce a National Cadet Corps. This organization has a very important role in moulding and shaping the lives of youths to become outstanding citizens.

Barbados is one of many countries that has a National Cadet Corps, making this model not unique to Guyana as some many erroneously want to believe.

I submit that the National Cadet Corps in Barbados should be used as a model for Guyana’s introduction of the corps. In Barbados, apart from the regular school-based cadet corps units spread across the island, there’s a separate National Cadet Corps Marching Band frequently featured alongside the Royal Barbados Police Force Military Band and the Barbados Defence Force Military Band at events of national importance such as independence celebrations.

Yours faithfully,
Ian E Harris
