The late NA Deputy Mayor was a good man

Dear Editor,

My cousin Harold, Deputy Mayor of New Amsterdam, died and is now buried. He was a man hospitable to all. His dining table, crammed with delicious food made by his wonderful wife Dolly, was always available to visiting friends, family and politicians. He gave money to the poor. He was a staunch supporter of the Anglican Church in New Amsterdam. He did his best, with limited resources, to create a pleasant and clean environment in his town. Whenever I stayed in his house, half a dozen friends would be there, and when I travelled in Berbice with him, he would be greeted by many admirers. He was humble, people responded to his warmth and ready laughter. He was proud to have followed in his uncle’s footsteps (Bhairo Prasad QC), as a PNC Acting/Deputy Mayor. He was an affable politician, willing to embrace any decent person irrespective of their religious, ethnic or political affiliation. I can’t believe such a good man is dead!

Yours faithfully,
David Dabydeen
