Lands & Survey is very slow

Dear Editor,

My letter concerns the push-around that you receive when you approach the Guyana Lands & Survey Commission at D’Urban Backlands to apply for a piece of land to carry out farming or poultry activities. First of all, when you do get a chance to apply it takes years for it to be processed and approved, and that has been so in my case and that of many other persons. It should be noted that the employees at the commission don’t feel the need to contact persons when approval has been granted, instead you have to do the running up and down to find out.

Secondly, when you are finally called to see the location and you pay the required fee you still have to wait on God knows what. After waiting for a very long time for this process to commence, almost two months ago myself and others were taken up the Highway to see where the allocated land is. Following that the payments were made, but to date no word from the commission. Why is the system so slow? Persons are trying to earn an honest living but the people in this office are just bent on frustrating you.

I am kindly calling on the new government to look into the affairs of this commission and do some major reshuffling or whatever other action is deemed necessary to revamp its operations, because I can honestly say it’s so frustrating, that at times I felt like just forgetting about the whole thing. Running to and from this place requires time and money, and if you are employed like myself it’s very hard. I’m asking that some urgent action be taken so that this process can be speeded up for the citizens of this country.

Yours faithfully,
