Suggested GuySuCo non-executive directors

Dear Editor,

The news of the removal of GuySuCo’s Board and CEO was all but expected and indeed desirable, as many were just henchmen and cronies of the political bosses of the previous administration.

I note, however, news that there may be an interim management team with former CEOs back in vogue, at least for a short while. I think this is a retrograde step and may be a knee-jerk reaction by the new government to do some ‘cutting and pasting’ even though I accept it may be partially because of a dearth of talented management skills.

However, APNU and the AFC were in opposition for some years and should have already been talent scouting both locally and overseas, knowing full well that heads would roll if they came into office.

I sincerely hope that the administration is looking for the best skills available, regardless of perceived political affiliation as we need the most capable men and women to fill the CEO, marketing, procurement, human resources, finance and other positions, and most importantly a specialist in turn-around management should be hired, as clearly a substantial degree of re-engineering and ‘hatcheting’ will be required.

Regarding the Board, I think that some of the following non-executive directors should be included, at least for a two-year period, even if they are not available for the long term: Tony Vieira, Christopher Ram, Nowrang Persaud, Ramon Gaskin and Anand Goolsarran (if available).

Yours faithfully,

Harry Roopnauth
