Imbaimadai residents would like Trotman, Allicock, GGMC and Lands & Surveys to visit Imbaimadai to address problems

Dear Editor

We, the residents, miners and businessmen of Imbaimadai, take this opportunity to extend heartfelt congratulations to President Granger and Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo on the winning of the May 11 elections.

Now that the elections are over and the coalition has achieved the peoples’ mandate to govern this beautiful country of Guyana, may I remind them that the coalition’s theme was “It is Time.”

Imbaimadai is a dual community of Coastlanders and Amerindians. The previous administration only addressed issues affecting the Amerindians and ignored the issues of the Coastlanders. We have written three letters addressing the problems in Imbaimadai, but we have received no answers, nor were we, the Coastlanders, consulted on any of the letters sent.

We wish urgently to have a meeting with the President, the Prime Minister or the Minister of Natural Resources, Mr Raphael Trotman, to discuss issues that affect both people of this community and to arrive at a mutual agreement.

I suggest that a visit be made to this community because of the financial constraints of the residents. We would also like representatives from GGMC, Lands & Surveys and if possible the Minister of Indigenous Affairs, Mr Allicock, to be a part of the team.

APNU+AFC promised in their campaign to tackle certain urgent issues that affect the country in their first 100 days in office. We know from President Granger’s soldiering background that he is trained to hit the ground running. So we implore him to consider our request and have urgent dialogue with us. We don’t need any financial bailout; we need land to work to be able to produce so that we can maintain ourselves and families.

Yours faithfully,
Wilton Tafares
