Venezuela is a bully

Dear Editor,

David Commissiong of Barbados is someone I hold in very high regard; I consider him to be a brother who I have heretofore found to be very erudite.

Had I not seen his name attached at the end of the article titled ‘Please don’t misconstrue Venezuela’s words and action!’ dated June 14, 2015 in the online news magazine the Caribbean Flame (http://www.caribflame.com), I would never have believed upon reading the article that such puerility could have erupted from him.

Suffice to say this to Maduro, Venezuela et al: I am African and a born Guyanese, so since this is the country of my birth, I tolerate no nonsense when it comes to my country. Venezuela is a bully, and like all bullies they seek to hide their own weaknesses and other dysfunctions by picking on others who they believe can’t defend themselves.

Surely the despotic, corrupt and incompetent recently voted-out-of-office PPP/C government led many to believe that Guyana and Guyanese are the ‘sick men/women’ of the region and therefore many think that they can bully us or take their eyes and pass us.

But hold on, not so fast; surely the President understands the unrelenting fires that rage in our spirit against injustices, oppressors and land-grabbers. Simply put, we have always revolted against all colonisers.

Without a doubt, Venezuela is in a prolonged period of social and political regression and concomitant anxiety, and wishes to export that pain to us Guyanese and Guyana as a form of distraction from its present ills, thus putting the proverbial dead cat on the table.

The consternation for Maduro, Venezuela and whosoever ‘supports’ such actions against Guyana’s territory is precisely this: No! Venezuela’s actions and subsequent words have been perfectly construed.

As such, this most recent (in a long line of) belligerent, baseless, shameless, and illegal actions by Venezuela must, shall and will be met with a sufficiently strong and permanent remediative rejoinder.

By the way, did President Granger actually read President Maduro’s decree of May 26, 2015? Or did he simply take the Venezuelan official PR line of smoke and mirrors? Carrots and sticks?

Yours faithfully,
B O Osogbo
