Shabazz should be held accountable for Golden Jaguars feeble display on Sunday

Dear Editor,

The comments made by Coach Jamaal Shabazz, namely, “Guyana paid the price for defensive lapses” are absurd. He and his technical team should be replaced by Charles Pollard and Collie Hercules. Mr Shabazz, who can win any argument with his polished sentimental appeal, unfortunately lacks the capacity to make adjustments when in the middle of a war, and he must be held accountable for Sunday’s feeble defensive display by the Golden Jaguars. Mr Shabazz knew what Guyana’s weakness was at the end of the first leg, and yet failed to make the necessary adjustments for the second leg. Instead he gave a sentimental talk as if that was the adjustment needed. Editor, the team appeared unfit and at times appeared to lack cohesion. The Guyana Football Federation must now make a fresh start by employing the two mentioned gentlemen to take care of the U23 on a short-term contract, while ensuring the senior team remains active so as to qualify for the Caribbean Cup final four, which will see Guyana for the first time qualify for the CONCACAF gold cup. Editor, these are all realistic and achievable goals for Guyana.

Yours faithfully,
T Nelson
