When will GWI restore water to Non Pareil, Coldingen?

Dear Editor,

Over the weekend of August 29 and 30 the Guyana Water Incorporated had an advisory in the media informing residents that water would be disconnected in different sections of Non Pareil and Coldigen from Monday August 31 to Thursday September 3, and asked that residents make the necessary arrangements to have water stored. I made sure my tanks, barrels, buckets, etc, were all filled.

During the weekend of September 5 and 6 the water stored had to be used to do laundry, cooking and cleaning, and most of the water was utilized.

On Monday, September 7, I made a call to the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) and spoke with PRO Timothy Austin’s Assistant, who informed me that they had run into some other problems, but by the following day, Tuesday, September 8, water would be restored.

On Wednesday, September 9, I again called Mr Austin’s Assistant and she advised that water would be restored by Thursday, September 10.

Fortunately, we had two hours of rainfall on Wednesday the 9th and some amount of rainwater was able to trickle into the tank.

The Guyana Water Incorporated has not issued any advisory in the newspapers again informing the residents of these areas of the present situation. Editor, this situation is now totally out of hand and I call on GWI to issue another advisory and also for them to begin water distribution in these areas.

This is the dry season, and besides, the plants are dying out, many persons have babies and sick persons who have to be taken care of. Water is an essential element in the care of humans, animals and plants.

Yours faithfully,
Jennifer Kanhai
