Raised pavements on America St

Dear Editor,

Now our garden city’s drains are de-silted and clean and parapets are cleared of bushes and we now have a free flow of the waste, stagnant, smelly, putrid water, I wonder if consideration would be given to the concrete pavements which were raised selectively and unofficially without permission, in front of some businesses in America Street.

Over a period of time in the past some business owners involuntarily had to raise the pavement in front of their business premises to prevent the foul, dirty water from the gutters getting into their premises. Those raised parts of some pavements in central Georgetown are a walking hazard for older folks. I remember seeing recently an older woman stumble and fall in front of a business near the East Coast car park on an uneven raised pavement.

Kindly give this matter your attention Mr. Mayor!

Yours faithfully
