The delivery of mail is expected to meet the established standard

Dear Editor,

The Guyana Post Office Corporation (GPOC) wishes to the address the concerns raised by Rev Gideon Cecil in his letter to the Stabroek News on December 2, 2015, captioned, ‘Overseas mail is always opened.’

While the corporation does not wish to rescue itself from the allegations made by Rev Cecil, please be informed that it is our standard operating procedure to stamp and plastic package any item that was received taped, soiled or damaged from other postal administrations.

Additionally, the corporation expects all mail to be delivered according to its established delivery standard and will not tolerate any preventable diversion. GPOC encourages customers to report such instances to our Customer Services Department on telephone number 226-3127.

GPOC welcomes any feedback from its customers, and as such warmly invites Rev Cecil to a meeting with the Deputy Postmaster General to further address his concerns. Contact can be made on telephone number 227-7494 or dpmg@guypost.gy

Yours faithfully,

Telesha Whyte
