Drop-in Centre was never ‘aback’ of anywhere

Dear Editor,

In the article captioned ‘Deplorable conditions and poor care at the Drop-in Centre’ (SN, December 14) your reporter erroneously wrote that the Drop-in Centre was started in 1999 in a building “aback of the Sacred Heart Church.”

Through the kindness and generosity of Fr Malcolm Rodrigues and the Jesuit Parish Council, the boys were accommodated in the upper flat of the church and were welcome to attend all church services.

There were no charges for the use of any of the church’s facilities and never were we ever placed “aback” of anywhere.

Additionally, the street children’s programme was started by the government in 1991 when the boys were offered residential care at the Sophia Complex.

Yours faithfully,

Sylvia Conway
