Dowrich, Hope score big in B/dos’s trial

Bridgetown, Barbados – Shane Dowrich slammed a fine century and in-form fellow wicket-keeper/batsman Shai Hope missed out on a hundred by four runs in a high-scoring and exciting third Barbados one-day trial match at Dayrells Road yesterday.

Dowrich scored 120 to help spur Ashley Nurse’s XI to a three-wicket win with three balls to spare over Kevin Stoute’s XI as they chased 281 for victory in 50 overs.

After going to the crease at No. 4, Dowrich featured in a telling sixth wicket partnership of 110 in 16.4 overs with Mario Rampersaud, who made 35.

Dowrich faced 117 balls and struck 13 fours and one six, while left-hander Rampersaud hit three boundaries in his 48-ball knock.

Opener Kyle Corbin made 47 off 59 balls with five fours and one six.

Pacer Javon Searles took two for 53 and left-arm spinner Jamar Griffith, two for 74 – both off ten overs.

Stoute’s XI made 280 for six after winning the toss.

Hope, who hit 109 not out in the first trial match and 36 not out in the second – both at Bayfield – scored 96 off 114 balls with eight fours and one six.

Stoute contributed 82 off 96 balls including six fours and one six as he and Hope put on 171 in 30.5 overs for the fourth wicket.

Seamer Carlos Brathwaite took two for 29 off seven overs.

Hope’s rich form follows an outstanding season for ESA Field Pickwick in the BCA Sagicor General Super Cup Championship in which he amassed 331 runs and topped the overall batting averages with 165.50.

The trials are in preparation for the WICB Nagico Super50 Championship in Trinidad & Tobago in January. Barbados are the defending champions.
