Jacobs looking to cement place in national side

All-rounder Steven Jacobs wants to cement his position in the national side as he aims to improve his cricket as well as contribute to the Guyana Jaguars future success.

After a short stint as the leader of Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC), Jacobs was selected to represent the Jaguars, who will open their NAGICO Super50 campaign today against the Windward Volcanoes in Trinidad and TObago.

Expecting to be named in the initial 11 Jacobs said his 2015 goal is to cement his place in all formats of national cricket, when he spoke to Stabroek Sport on Tuesday.

“It has always been difficult for me but I intend to cement my place this year….I must say in 2013 my place in the team was never questioned but after leaving to play for CCC in 2014 and not delivering it was back to square one. Now I am elated that I have returned and I just want to enjoy my cricket”, he explained.

However, though his goal is long term he is currently aiming to deliver with both bat and ball in the NAGICO Super50. “Expect me delivering and playing smart whenever I get the opportunity to bat and bowl,” said the former West Indies U-19 player.

In addition, the 26-year-old said he will be giving 100% in every area of his game because he wants his return to be fruitful.

Jacobs, who showed form in the penultimate practice match, blasting an unbeaten 44 from 24 balls is also looking to improve his record with the bat against the Windwards when they face the Jaguars later in the day. “I never made a significant score against the Windward. Actually I never really batted a lot against them but I had some good bowling performances, with my best being 4-22. I am looking forward for a special innings against them”, said Jacobs.

As it regards the Jaguars he believed it is a balanced team with lots of experienced players, who can win the title for Guyana.
