Squash president Fernandes seeking re-election

Guyana Squash Association (GSA) President David Fernandes said he will be seeking re-election when the entity stages its election for office bearers this year.

Fernandes was elected to office in 2013 after serving several years prior as the association’s Vice-President. He took over from Andrew Arjoon who demitted office that the same year. In an invited comment with Stabroek Sports, the squash veteran said:”I feel I can still contribute to the sport in a meaningful way but if there is someone who is willing to take up the challenge, I am willing to work with anyone. “With anything you are doing, you can’t do it alone. Even if you are building a house, you need advice, you might know where all the doors have to go but you might not know anything about pipe fittings,” he added.

Asked if anyone has signaled their intention to challenge him for the post, the incumbent said “No!”. Fernandes further said the local competitive season will commence in the month of February with the traditional Bounty Farm Mashramani Handicap tourney.
