No candidate for GABA top post

Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) President Michael Singh said the association is yet to receive an official correspondence from any individual signaling their intention to contest for the post of GABA president.

The GABA is set to officially stage its Annual General Meeting (AGM) for the election of office bearers on Sunday at Roraima Duke Lodge in Kingston from 12:00hrs.

The five positions slated to be contested are the President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and Assistant Secretary/Treasurer posts. In an invited comment with Stabroek Sports, the incumbent GABA boss said “No one so far has signalled their intention to run for the presidency.” Asked if a decision will be taken by the association if no one was to run for the position, he said:“I will have check the constitution if no one doesn’t come forward.” According to Singh, the GABA will not be rescheduling the forum. Singh said that he was confident individuals will come forward to contest for the respective five posts. He further declared once more he will not be seeking re-election on Sunday.

Questioned who are the clubs under the association’s umbrella that will be eligible to exercise their franchise, Singh said two individuals from each of the affiliated clubs will be eligible to vote.

He noted the affiliated clubs are Dynas Ravens, TGH Pacesetters, Colts, Pepsi Sonics, Republic Bank Nets, Eagles, UG Trojans, Plaisance Guardians, Knights and Melanie Patriots. He further said the teams that cannot vote but can observe the election process are Buxton Heat and West Side Jammers.
